Have you ever liked someone that you couldn't get off your mind? I think most of us have, and sometimes it can be very frustrating. This is a song/poem I wrote about that feeling of having some one that you don't want to like anymore come to you in your dreams. Let me know what you think!
And now life is good; I feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. I know what I do with my time will make me smile and grin. I don’t waste my time, I spend it doing all that I love, but, at night, my dreams don’t go to where my mind thinks they should. Not to Barbados, the Caribbean or even the moon. Not to Santorini or Istanbul but to the figure of some good for nothing that can always makes me swoon. I try to forget you; I try to hate you, but every night you keep coming back. Every day that I make it without you on my mind just leads to you haunting every one of my dreams. And now it seems … my heart doesn’t want to forget you even though my mind knows that it should. Haven’t seen you in a while, haven’t thought of you by day but by night “you haven’t been on my mind”, that’s something I cannot say. Why do you sneak into my dreams when I know I am not in yours? How can you still be in my subconscious when my head hits my pillow and the world snores? I want you out of my thoughts and out of my head. I want to be free of you and have my dreams of you be left to shreds. I want to think of you as often as you think of me. And I know that is as rare as a visit to Okhotsk Sea.

Bitch
How are you most often described? Cute, funny, smart, clever? Or something more offensive; dork, nerd, whore, idiot? Does that descriptor really define you?
I like to be upfront with people. When someone does something that bothers me, I say so. I do have a filter when I feel it is necessary, but I don’t like to let my irritation build to anger until I explode. But, apparently, that is what society prefers.
I am outspoken, sarcastic and sometimes obnoxious. I speak my mind and it sometimes gets me in trouble. And, as a result, people call me a bitch. At times, I definitely can be, but I don’t think that just because I confront my problems head-on or that I speak my mind I am a bitch. I have dealt with the sort of reaction for people for a while now. I have come to terms with it, but when I reflect on it, it is a little upsetting. I am the one people go to when someone needs to be put in their place. I like being able to stand up for my friends, and sometimes that means I am the bad guy, but I can accept that.
Being a bitch doesn’t mean that I’m wrong. That is not to say that I don’t make mistakes, of course I do. But there are definitely situations when being a bitch is the right to do.
The major problem is that somehow that means my “bitch-ness” is contagious. When a friend stands up for them self, or speaking their mind then the only reasonable conclusion is that, “you are rubbing off on them”. What does that mean? That they cannot be honest or upfront without my influence? I feel that is demeaning to them and somewhat derogatory towards me.
I won’t be deterred by this, however. I like who I am, and I believe that problems should be solved directly and in a timely manner. Passive aggressive responses often make problems compound and then something that could have been solved with a simple conversation is blown out of proportion.
So, even though I think it is ludicrous that speaking my mind and not being afraid of confrontation makes me a bitch, I’ll take it. I would much rather people think I am a bitch, than think I am a pushover. What you call “bitch” I call strong woman. And now, when someone calls me by that name I hear “I’m intimidated because you are a tough girl.”
So go ahead, call me what you want. I like who I am and I will not be silent just because it fits better with non-confrontation society.
And that’s what Marika Sings.

Tell Me You're Sorry
this week i have been crazy busy, so here is a song i wrote a few months back. let me know what you think!! If there are topics you would like to see me write about or write a song about COMMENT! hope you enjoy :D
Tell me you’re sorry; tell me that we could never be.
Tell me you think we are better not as an “us” but just as you and me.
But you don’t understand how you can sleep at night, cuz you also told me you really need me in your life.
And now it’s like we’re back to the beginning learning one plus one is two. And no matter how impressive the shooting star, not every dream comes true. And even the most simple of problems isn’t what it seems like it’d be—because one plus on isn’t equal to you and me.
Tell me I look nice; tell me that I’m pretty.
Tell me that you like me and laugh when I’m witty.
Now I don’t understand how you mean what you say, when you tell me we won’t be together, you always look away.
And now it’s like we’re back to the beginning learning one plus one is two. And no matter how impressive the shooting star, not every dream comes true. And even the most simple of problems isn’t what it seems like it’d be—because one plus one isn’t equal to you and me.

Let's Get With It, America: Same-Sex Marriage
In Argentina, the President and Vice President had to be Roman Catholic until 1994. Argentines are 92.1% Christian and the majority are Roman Catholic. The Roman Catholic Church says in the Catholic Encyclopedia,"Homosexuality: Sexual activity between persons of the same sex. It is not a normal condition, the acts being against nature are objectively wrong."
And yet, as of July 26, 2010, gay marriage is legal in Argentina. The Argentinean Congress adopted reforms to the Civil Code that redefined marriage to include homosexual partners as well as to make both adoption and divorce laws applicable to homosexual couples.
So, this brings me to my main point: what the hell are we doing America? The National Organization for Marriage or NOM says this, "Gay families aren't real families." And their defense for these claims: "Two men might each be a good father, but neither can be a mom. The ideal for children is the love of their own mom and dad. No same-sex couple can provide that.”
Okay, so does that mean a single parent can't provide a loving home for their child? Does that mean that individuals should not be allowed to adopt because they cannot provide a mother and father figure if they are just one person? Obviously not. Also, these claims made by NOM and other anti-gay marriage organizations literally hold no water. According to Ellen Perrin, MD, professor of pediatrics at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, in "an analysis of multiple studies of 500 households shows that rearing children in a same-sex household does not affect the their self-esteem, gender identity, or emotional health." This was a study of about 260 children from ages 3 to 11 years old. The study followed these children after they had grown to adulthood; 11 years later "they still found no difference in adjustment, self-esteem, psychiatric or psychological problems, family relationships, or in identifying sexual orientation."
Same sex marriage is legal in not only Argentina, but also in Belgium, Canada, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Sweden. The United States likes to be ahead of the rest of the world in many things such as technological advancement and education. We spend billions of dollars trying to fix problems of other countries and governments to increase the standard of living for that countries people. And yet, the United States has not made enough of an effort to make the standard of living for the LGBT community high.
Gay and lesbian couples should have the same rights as heterosexual couples do. It is an abomination that the LGBT community is treated as secondary citizens with regards to marriage, adoption, and health benefits.
So let's get with it America. It is 2010. Let's take a step in the right direction. Legalize same-sex marriage and really give all United States citizens the same rights.

Bite Me
The Twilight Saga has become a phenomenon. The books were bestsellers instantly, and Twilight was the biggest selling book of 2008. The movies have become a major part of popular culture and it seems most teenagers have a strong opinion on whether they are Team Edward or Team Jacob. [Even stronger opinion than Team LC and Team Kristen from back in the day.] And that is really sad. Twilight was turned down by 14 agents before it got published… too bad Stephanie Meyer didn’t stop trying after 14 no’s.
Twilight is one of the worst things to ever happen to teenage girls. Edward is not at all realistic, and Bella is a terrible role model. She is a flat, and under-developed character that has little to no personality of her own. She falls in love and is entirely consumed by it. Bella basically teaches adolescents to give up everything for a guy, and that it is ok to lead on another guy [Jacob] who cares about her. These books and movies are not teaching what I want my younger cousins to learn about high school and boys. And if had them, I wouldn’t want my children reading these either. Edward is not a good teenage crush. I understand that he is a vampire, but he is not a realistic character at all. The connection between Bella and Edward is superficial and based more on Edward’s lust towards Bella’s scent than most anything else.
Ok, I will level with you; I have not read the whole series. Actually, I haven’t even read the whole first book, though I tried to at least 3 times. Want to know why: because the writing is awful. Stephanie Meyer wouldn’t have passed my Honors English 9 class with writing like that. There are sentences that are extremely convoluted and sentences that make no sense. Meyer under-develops characters and plot lines, and spends pages discussing Bella making a sandwich.
Aside from the fact that Twilight is a sad attempt at literature that is teaching the wrong things to teenage girls; it is very upsetting to any Science Fiction or Fantasy fan. The way vampires behave is not at all in accordance with other novels, movies and stories that have portrayed vampires and werewolves in the past. Vampires drink the blood of living things including people and animals. They sleep in coffins and cannot be in the sunlight. Meyer can take certain liberties with her characters, absolutely, however I think she took a few too many liberties with her vampires.
I cannot stand Twilight. I refuse to see any of the movies, buy any books or fan paraphernalia. However, I will share a song about how I really feel towards Twilight.
Here it is:
Your shit is whack; everyone knows that they don’t sparkle in the sun.
And that when a car is coming they can’t just stop it, they run!
It doesn’t make any sense, why is this girl acting all kinds of nuts?
Since when does a guy taking off his shirt cause such a massive fuss?
They always say “but he’s so hot! You don’t agree, what kind of girl are you?
Well I am definitely not the kind that thinks reading that crap makes it true.
There is not a single person out in the world like that.
He’s less believable than Romeo and without feathers in his hat.
Everywhere I look, everywhere I go, everyone that I see
All they ever talk about is a time of day that is now a book and movie.
Remember when twilight was the time you had to watch out for deer?
And when you had to flip that little tab on the bottom of your rearview mirror?
Instead it means this pathetic excuse for a story, this waste of paper and ink.
It means picking Edward or Jacob and broadcasting everywhere, which you’d pick.
Now I never want to see another t-shirt, poster or pin
That has the face of Taylor or Robert with some stupid ass grin.
So go read Dracula and then get back to me,
Until then you and your Twilight bullshit can get the fuck away from me.
And that's what Marika Sings.

Medium-Sized Heart
Hello again! This week I wrote a song about what I love and what I hate. It's a playful style with no traditional chorus or bridge, but I think it is pretty cute. Tell me what you think!
I like it when the bass is so loud I can feel it and I like it when someone kisses my boo-boo to heal it.
I like nighttime when I can see the stars shine and I like looking in the mirror and thinking, “Damn! I look fine!”
I like flowers and earthworms and making my friends smile. I like when a friend says I can only chat for a bit but then we talk for a long while.
I like when my cat sleeps on my lap and I like how my dog always takes naps. I like overcoming my fears and I like reminiscing ‘bout these 19 years.
I love my mom and my brother, my dad and my home. I love my friends like my sisters and I love my school cuz it’s my own.
I love snowflakes and cupcakes and staying up late. I love singing too loud in my car and I love daydreaming about one day becoming great.
I love people and things; I love ponies and rings. I love the sun on my face and the wind blowing through hair; I love laughter and sushi and knowing that people care.
But I’ve got no room in this medium-sized heart for the likes of you: someone who is arrogant and someone who makes noises when they chew.
I have no room for a guy who only wants what he cannot get, and when he finally could have it he runs… and fills me up with regret.
I have no space for a fake or a phony or a tool. Got no time for users abusers or fools.
I have no time for a guy who only wants to play games, but when it comes down to the wire thinks I am the one to blame.
I have no tolerance for somebody who thinks I am only second best, who loses interest so quickly, who only stares at my chest.
I have no patience for a guy who thinks he knows what I want and what I need, and then refuses to accept that he is wrong that I am not the average-girl breed.
I don’t have room for your lies, your tricks or your pick-up lines. I don’t have room for your secrets, your attitude or your pathetic love-story tries.
I have no room for your ego in this medium-sized heart of mine, only room for scented candles and coffee, for watching sports, reading books and soaking up the sunshine.
And that's what Marika Sings.

The American Dream
Here is a song/poem that I wrote about the hollow idea of the "American Dream" that we are fed as citizens in the USA. Tell me what you think!
How can you not see that what we dream isn’t what we get?
You want to be a millionaire but we’re trillions in debt.
Everyone’s got a shot, the freedom to be all you can be…
really you believe that?
You must see something I don’t see.
There are people starving, people dying, people crying out to be free.
And now you’re bitching about your taxes: all you care about it money!
You blame the victim, you blame the one’s who have no voice to fight back.
When someone fights for the little guy all of the sudden our country’s goals are off track.
You sit there in your Nike, your Abercrombie, and your Coach, saying that the right for equal education and healthcare are all the wrong approach.
But when YOU wake up you know that you will have food to eat.
You have a roof over your head and you have shoes on your feet.
That's what Marika sings.
